Legendary Derrick Rose surprises fans by opening pop-up flower shop
Former NBA star and Chicago native Derrick Rose opened a one-day pop-up flower shop called “Rose’s Flower Shop” on Jan. 2, 2025, at 350 N. State St. in downtown Chicago.
The opening of the shop attracted thousands of fans who created a line stretching over several blocks. Many of them had been waiting since the early morning hours to meet Rose and get flowers. The store was open from noon to 4 p.m., and capacity was quickly filled and the line had to be closed. Visitors were able to choose four flowers for their loved ones and meet Rose, who was present in a green apron and willingly took photos with fans. It was an unforgettable experience for many, as one fan said, “This is the greatest moment of my life.”
That same day, Rose presented his new short documentary “Becoming a Rose” at an event at Soho House in the West Loop. The documentary, a tribute to Chicago, was screened during “Derrick Rose Night” at the United Center on Jan. 4, 2025, when the Chicago Bulls hosted the New York Knicks.Rose, who announced the end of his professional basketball career in September 2024, is saying goodbye to fans and his hometown in this way. His floral arrangements and documentary highlight his gratitude and love for Chicago, which has always supported him throughout his career.
The opening of “Rose’s Flower Shop” shows that Derrick Rose remains a Chicago icon, capable of drawing crowds beyond the basketball court.
