Amazon launches Haul platform: competes with cheap e-shops with products under $20
Amazon has introduced a new platform called Haul, which offers products with a price limit of up to $20 (roughly CZK 479). The move represents the giant’s effort to compete with popular budget retailers such as Temu and Shein and appeal to customers looking for bargain purchases.
Haul has been launched as a mobile service accessible through the Amazon Shopping app and is so far only available to customers in the United States. The platform promises “extremely low prices” and products that are worth it, even if customers have to wait up to two weeks for their delivery.
Haul uses a similar business model to its competitors, Temu and Shein, which have seen massive success in the market by offering cheap goods combined with longer delivery times. However, these platforms have faced increasing criticism from regulators. For example, the European Commission recently launched proceedings against Temu for failing to intervene against the sale of illegal products. According to Forrester analyst Sucharita Kodali, Temu and Shein also face criticism for wasting resources and lapses in environmental responsibility.
Amazon believes its strategy based on low prices will appeal to a wide range of customers. Haul additionally offers free shipping on orders over $25. Dharmesh Mehta, Amazon’s vice president of global seller services, said the platform is just getting started and that the company plans to listen to customer feedback to further improve and expand the service in the coming months.
This new move by Amazon confirms the changing dynamics of the e-commerce market, where affordability and a wider choice of products are increasingly gaining ground alongside quality and fast delivery. Haul may thus represent a significant change that will affect the competitive battle between the big players in the industry.
