Apple is coming to your home: Introducing a new smart display for home control?
In the near future, Apple’s product offering could expand to include a new product line focused on smart homes. The information about this possible expansion comes from a reputable source, Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman, who is usually well informed about the inner workings of the company. Gurman claims that Apple is considering creating a dedicated smart display that would primarily be used to control devices connected to the HomeKit platform.
So it would essentially be a lightweight version of the iPad that would be optimized for use in a home environment. News of this possibility started circulating last year when analyst Ming-Chi Kuo reported on it. Since then, however, we haven’t heard much about the news, and only now does the project seem to be moving into the next phase.
According to Gurman’s information, Apple is currently in the testing phase for the displays that would be part of this device. If the tests prove to be successful and the technology proves to be reliable and useful, there is a real chance that Apple will decide to bring this novelty to the market. However, it is not yet clear whether the company will decide to actually go ahead with the project and what the final look and specifications of this device will be.
One of the main reasons for Apple’s hesitation may be the uncertainty about the cost of production. Since this is a low-cost device that is primarily designed to maximize profit, it is important not to overstate the cost of production. Apple will need to make a careful calculation of costs and potential profits before deciding to proceed with the project.
