From 2025, the Czech Republic will start financially supporting game studios, which is standard in neighbouring countries. The government has announced the introduction of the State Audiovisual Fund, which will extend its support to video game developers.

Until now, subsidies have only been provided to cinema, but the new change, effective from 1 January 2025, will bring significant support to the games industry as well.

Ivan Bartoš, a representative of the Pirate Party, stressed the importance of this move: “Support for game creators and the games industry is a key part of the proposal passed by the government today. The Czech Republic has a high added value and is successful in this sector, but previous governments have not exploited this potential. In other EU countries, similar funds have significantly supported the games industry and there is no reason why the Czech Republic should be left behind.” The Pirates’ full statement is available on their official website.

This news will certainly please Czech video game developers and brings hope for further development and success in this dynamic sector.
